Welcome Home! We recently had the incredible opportunity to list a loft in one of Atlanta’s most incredible preservation projects and unique residential buildings... the Kirkwood School Loft.
When Kirkwood incorporated as it’s own city in 1899 it made a deal with the power company (now GA Power) who owned the original building & acre of land at the corner of Delano & Warwick where the school Lofts sit today. In exchange for this school building Kirkwood allowed the Power Company to run their South Decatur Trolley Line through Kirkwood. A WIN-WIN if you ask me.
That small building eventually became multiple buildings, an auditorium, music class, and library & was the central source of education in Kirkwood through the 1960s.
We knew this one was special! Loft #14 was supposedly the music room and still retains a piano from the school in the loft! As well as one of the original chalkboards on the family room wall. So naturally we went to work & hired local legend and one of our favorite ATL artists @jeremyrayis to bring some magic to the space!
The goal was to welcome the new owner to this unique piece of ATL history & celebrate Kirkwood at the same time. This time lapse shows the 8 hour journey of bringing the Kirkwood Schools chalkboard & unit #14 to life! Brilliant!
