When you step out the front door onto the brick paved streets you are stepping into one of the most historically rich neighborhoods in Atlanta. Established in 1865 at the end of the Civil War, Summerhill was one of Atlantas first integrated neighborhoods with early inhabitants that consisted of freed Slaves and Jewish immigrants. In 1911, two-thirds of Atlanta's Jewish residents called Summerhill home and the neighborhood was also home to E. P. Johnson Elementary School, the only public school for Black children in the City.
