Howard Before/After
In September 2013 a house came on the market in Kirkwood that was unbelievable. a 1910 post-victorian mansion, that looked like it belonged in Inman Park, was nestled in right before the curve on Howard St headed towards College Ave. It was an investor’s dream…a beautiful home that is 105 years old with beautiful bones. It just needed love…a LOT of love. However, the price was too steep and the risk too high for any developers in that barely recovering market of 2013 to take this project on.
Jonathan & Callie had been thinking over an investment property in Florida and after a trip down there to investigate they decided they were not going to move forward. ENTER 242 HOWARD ST. Like a lighting strike Jonathan had a crazy idea that they should buy this tired old house. Callie was not as enthusiastic about the idea.
After a month of convincing, Jonathan took Callie to visit Howard and she caught the vision. The 100 year old newel posts, coffered 12ft ceilings, & 6 original fireplaces lead to an affection that was relentless.
One failed construction loan, a raid of every savings account they had, a year long permitting process, and 16 months of construction later the Rich family moved into Howard! The labor of absolute love & creativity developed into the home their kids would grow up in, that Jonathan and Callie would grow old in, and that JRICH Atlanta would operate out of beginning New Years Day 2015.
An absolute gift of God, Jonathan and Callie are extremely grateful for the opportunity to be stewards of this amazing piece of history and architecture and their hope is for it to become a place that can foster amazing community & hospitality for the next 105 years.
Enjoy a few before & after pics below. Tell all your friends!
